In the annals of improbable tales, mine unfolds like a yarn spun by a particularly imaginative cowboy around a campfire. Raised in the tranquil embrace of New Hampshire, I was as rooted as an old maple tree, content in the familiar cadence of life.
Marriage, however, proved to be the gateway to adventure. For nearly two decades, my patient wife and I have navigated life’s twists and turns, from the rocky paths of New England to the sun-drenched streets of Austin, Texas. With little more than a few dollars and a surplus of ambition, we set off for the Lone Star State on a whim, seeking fortune and opportunity in equal measure.
Fortune favored us, it seemed, as I carved out a career first in dentistry and later in regulatory compliance, a path as unexpected as a cactus in a cornfield. But it was in the wide-open spaces of West Texas, in the welcoming embrace of the tiny community of Eula, that our story truly found its heart.
There, amidst the endless skies and rolling pastures, we found not just a home, but a community that embraced us as their own. It was in this unlikely setting that I found Jesus, a revelation as profound as it was unexpected, leading me to trade my flannel shirts for a humble existence in a pasture, where a greenhouse blooms with life and a couple of tabby cats keep watch.
In this peaceful corner of the world, I’ve found a new purpose, a new perspective, and a new appreciation for the art of storytelling.
